You know what kind of night will follow when one of the premier wrestlers scheduled to compete in the main event rushes the announce position and demands an opponent fifteen minutes before the advertised bell time. VIP Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega started the event on his own accord, demanding one of the fan favorites to face him in the ring. Never know for backing down, Destiny's Lee Valiant answered the challenge and an official was hurried to the ring. The bell rang and the two unloaded on each other like they owe each other money. Ortega controlled much of the bout, tying up and frustrating the high-flyer on the canvas. However, Valiant stayed in the bout and escaped with both an injured arm and a pinfall victory.

The National Anthem was then played and an official hit the ring for the "first" match of the evening. General McAllister announced that the masked Canadian Destroyer had came to him about joining the his army, so he was giving him a singles "Try Out" match to test him. The General put away the youngster in under two minutes with a pinfall victory, putting in question the Destroyer's chances of joining McAllister's Army.

Fatback Enterprises then entered the arena giving manager Brad Stutts a platform for a lecture on the recent past and asking for a special video to be played. During the process, "Box Office Draw" Mikael Yamaha hits the ring as the video screen shows a still shot of Yamaha with his face covered in plastic from several weeks ago. The bell rang and singles action between Fatback's Donnie Dollar$ and the "Box Office Draw" broke out as another chapter of the history between the two former partners. The fans cheered wildly for Yamaha throughout the bout but he was unable to overcome the numbers after being assaulted by Matthew de Nero on the floor away from the official's eyes and covered for a pinfall by Dollar$ as the bout's time limit ran down.

"Gate City Sinner" Trent Wylde and RGL Champion "Jersey" Nick Richards entered the arena next, demanding the house mic and then demanding a shot at the CWF Mid Atlantic Tag Team titles. Commissioner Cross entered the arena and quickly granted their request, changing the scheduled tag title from regular tag rules to a three-way elimination title bout later in the evening.

Singles action hit the ring next as the "Italian Assassin" Gregory Vercetti entered to do battle with fan-favorite "Leelicious" Lee Valiant. Valiant, still showing the effects of the impromptu bout before the opening bell, favored his arm during the duration, which Vercetti quickly took advantage of. The "Italian Assassin" tried to dismantle the high-flyer on the canvas, but was unable to finish the deal after the fan-favorite was able to hit him with a quick pinfall in mid-stride.

The Mid Atlantic Tag Titles were on the line next as two teams of challengers entered to do battle with the Kamakazi Kid & Xsiris for the gold. "Gate City Sinner" Trent Wylde & "Jersey" Nick Richards entered, as promised earlier, followed by the scheduled challengers, Fatback Enterprises' "Handsome" Mitch Connor & Matthew de Nero w/Brad Stutts. The champions entered and the bell rings, with the two challenging teams doing battle as the champions look on. Wylde became quickly disgusted with his partner's antics in the ring, even though the youngster did catch Xsiris with a series of boots, sending him to the canvas in the wrong corner. Richards & Wylde were eliminated after a Connor "Bridging Suplex Move" after de Nero's botched "Suplex Move" on the RGL Champion, leaving the match to continue between the champions and originally scheduled challengers.

Connor came close to taking over the bout after the elimination of the first team, battling and brawling but the champions showed their heart as they came back in a roar to keep the titles firmly in their grasp to the delight of the crowd. Xsiris caught Connor with a leg to the back of his head from the top ropes and Kamakazi Kid ascended the turnbuckles to drop from the rafters onto Connor for a three count.

During intermission manager Brad Stutts entered the arena to hawk his new Fatback Enterprises t-shirts. After a few minutes of the fans putting up with the manager, Mikael Yamaha hit the arena with a steel chair in hand, sending the filibustering manager out of the front door of the Carolina Sports Arena.

The Boot Camp rules bout was up next, but before ring introductions lights went out and another mysterious video from the unknown newcomer appeared on the InsidersTron#trade; announcing he would reveal himself on May 17th. "Militant M.A.K." Marcellus King & General McAllister entered the ring as former Marine Alex Adonis confidently entered the arena. With the fans behind him, Adonis went to work on the larger-than-life King after McAllister ducked out to the floor. King, dressed for war, went medieval on Adonis before the Gulf War hero turned the tides with a boot to the mouth of King. The "Militant M.A.K." stayed in the bout even though Adonis did his best to make sure he didn't get a chance to use the aluminum baseball bat he carried to the ring. However, a steel chair from ringside was employed by the General's monster and after a second crushing blow across the back, Adonis ended up flat on his back unmoving. This reporter heard the wrestler say "I can't move" and I tried to help get the official's attention. When King realized his opponent was helpless, he thrust the steel chair into Adonis throat, but the former leatherneck refused to submit. King finally dropped to the canvas for the pinfall and left the ring looking as if he were cheated.

As the main event was introduced, the VIPs "King of Heat" Gemini Kid, Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega & "High Definition" Steve Greene witnessed former tag champions Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride & Tank Lawson enter, with the CWF Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion "the 1st" Ric Converse entering last. McBride announced that he had ANOTHER person he'd rather tag with and called for the introduction of Brass Munkey. In street clothes, Munkey approached the ring and told Boogie that he'd spoken in detail with Converse and that he should wrestle the match as signed and that he should trust his former "bird-dog" Converse. After consulting "his peoples", McBride accepted the advice from Munkey and the bout began. All six competitors began at a blistering pace but ten minutes or so into the bout big Tank Lawson, the number one contender to Greene's TV Title, was caught in the wrong corner and unable to battle back to his side of the ring for the tag. All three of the VIPs tried to break down the big Tankliner, taking turns pounding on and stretching him. Lawson showed his true mettle and battled back to his corner, allowing his fresh partners to hit the ring and take control. Gemini Kid produced a trademark set of brass knuckles, but Converse saw as well and took them from the veteran. The crafty VIPs won by pinfall after Ortega passed Gemini Kid a second set of brass knuckles, giving him the opportunity to nail Lawson behind the official's eyes and allow the pin.

McBride & Converse ended up staring each other down after clearing the ring with steel chairs, and it came to a boil as Converse threw his chair down and told McBride that he would always be his "bird-dog." At the urging of the fans, the two buried the hatchet once and for all as Commissioner Cross entered the arena. The Commissioner announced that he had witnessed the end of the bout on the monitors backstage and that he was granting Tank Lawson his long-awaited Television Title shot against champion "Simply" Steve Greene on May 17th in Burlington NC...And that the other VIPs would be banned from the building!

Injury Update: Wrestler Alex Adonis apparently suffered a "stinger" from the impact of the steel chair across his back, which was broken in an auto accident a few years ago, causing him to lose feeling and unable to move. Adonis refused transport to medical facilities and was back on his feet by the end of the event, but still in a great deal of pain. His condition is considered "day to day" at this point and we will post any updates as they become available.

A forecast for thunderstorms was for the most part not correct, but the rain did begin shortly after 7 pm, forcing a slightly later starting bell than the 7:30 as planned for CWF Mid Atlantic's Civitans SuperBrawl 2 at Greensboro NC's Sumner Civitans Ballfield. When the cover was removed for the ring singles action kicked off the annual event, with a sidebar from Brad "Fatback" Stutts & Donnie Dollar$, who came to the ring to discuss business with "Handsome" Mitch Connor. Connor dismissed his estranged teammates and turned his attention to dismantling young Rising Generation League Champion "Jersey" Nick Richards on the canvas. After a thorough domination by the former TV and Tag Champion, Connor left the ring with a pinfall victory in under five minutes.

General McAllister & "Militant M.A.K." Marcellus King were out next for tag team action against young Mark Van Hook and newcomer The Masked American. The General's Army began to dominate early, using multiple double-team moves to try to end the bout in the early stages. However, the explosive Masked American was a force to be dealt with with his high-flying attacks and impressive dropkick. The newcomer had the match in his team's grasp as his partner Van Hook climbed the turnbuckles for the final attack, only to be shoved off from behind by King on the ground. McAllister then rolled up the dazed youngster to secure his team a pinfall win.

Mixed tag action was up next with the #1 Contender for the CWF Mid Atlantic Television Title Tank Lawson & Kristin Flake entering to do battle with current TV Champ "Simply" Steve Greene & Amber O'Neal. As the bell rang, it signalled the skies above to open up with the first real downpour of the evening and action in the ring was in a deluge. Lawson attempted several times to pin Greene but the spunky O'Neal continued to save her partner over and over before Kristin Flake could neutralize her save attempts and help secure the pinfall victory. A soggy and short celebration followed as the ring crew hustled to return the cover to the ring. Weather radar indicated that the evening's weather would be out of the area in about 10 minutes, and by time intermission had ended the clouds had parted enough for an almost full moon to witness the second half of the evening's event.

VIP Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega was out next, heartily booed and harrassed by the fans at ringside, even through the introduction of the talented Roy "Rage" Wilkins for singles action. Ortega controlled much of the hard-hitting battle and eventually drug Wilkins to the soggy ballfield surface for more punishment. Ortega slung the youngster through two rows of steel chairs and onto the edge of the bleachers, sending fans scurrying for cover. Wilkins emerged from the chairs and mud with a badly bleeding hand but climbed back into the ring and let his "rage" take over against the man that inflicted the damage. His emotion was not enough, however, as one of the finest pure wrestlers in the Mid Atlantic area, Ortega, let his abilities shine in a hard-won pinfall victory before the angry crowd.

Six-man action hit the ring as Fatback Enterprises "Dangerous E" Corey Edsel, Donnie Dollar$ & Matthew de Nero w/Brad Stutts hit the ring to do battle with what the manager termed as a "hand-picked team of fan-favorite stars." Mid Atlantic Tag Champion Kamakazi Kid entered with partners "Box Office Draw" Mikael Yamaha & Destiny's Lee Valiant for what was to become a battle of brawn, wits and bravery. The teams finally went to their corners and the bell signalled the beginning of a brawl. All six competitors went at it in pairs before Yamaha & Valiant resorted to the "high-low" attack to get big "Dangerous E" Corey Edsel off of his feet for the first time in the bout. Kamakazi Kid hit the ring as the former 2-time Mid Atlantic Champ got to his feet, only to be turned inside out with a violent and explosive clothesline. De Nero eventually returned as legal man and he continued to tear apart Valiant, who found himself out of position to make a tag. When the resilient Valiant finally made his way to his corner, de Nero found himself between a rock and a hard place as Yamaha superkicked him in the chin as Valiant soared with a flying elbow from the top rope.

The most anticipated bout in recent months hit the ring under the cover of gray and cold as the new #1 Contender Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride entered to face friend "the 1st" Ric Converse for the CWF Mid Atlantic Heavyeight Title. The partisan crowd supported McBride vocally from the introductions all the way through with the Converse contingent making their presence known in spurts. The wet conditions should have very much limited what could be done in the squared circle under normal circumstances and the first ten minutes of the bout followed that rule of thumb, a lot of mat wrestling, holds and counters. After the fifteen minute mark, Converse took the battle to the soggy ballfield, hiptossing McBride into the mud at ringside. As both competitors try to make it back into the ring, the VIPs "King of Heat" Gemini Kid & Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega attacked McBride with brass knuckles, leaving him motionless on the canvas. Converse hit the ring nailing the VIPs from behind, sending them scurrying to the ground and away from the ring area. Converse then turned, covered the unconscious Boogie Woogie Man and retained his title by pinfall. McBride remained in the ring for five minutes or longer and was asking "what happened Ric?" as he was helped from the ring area to the dressing room.

A hot crowd of vocal wrestling fans packed Burlington NC's Carolina Sports Arena for a night of twists and turns and two title bouts. The event began with non-title tag team action with the CWF Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions Xsiris & Kamakazi Kid hitting the ring to do battle with RGL Champion "Jersey" Nick Richards & "Italian Assassin" Gregory Vercetti. The young Richards found himself on the wrong side of the ring early, causing his partner to brood on the ring apron awaiting a chance to enter the fray. When he did enter the ring, Vercetti evened up the tide, but was unable to return to the ring after tagging in his partner for the first time. Richards felt the top rope body splash of the Kamakazi Kid before he felt the referee's three count on the canvas as he lay on his back.

"General" Michael McAllister was out next, proclaiming his right to take over the reigns of the Abu-Dabi financial backers from the recently-deposed Sheik Lumpkin. Mikael Yamaha entered the ring and took the house mic from the self-proclaimed general sounding off about the absence of Fatback Enterprises due to their suspension and explained that he was entered into the special 6-Pack TV Title Challenge later in the event and was ready to step back into the championship spotlight.

The CWF Mid Atlantic Television Title was up for grabs next as champion "Simply" Steve Greene stepped up to answer the challenge of big Alex Adonis. The popular Adonis started fast, shrugging off the champion like he was a mere annoyance before the champion turned the tides back into his favor. General McAllister ended up on the ring apron at the seven minute mark, tossing a steel chain over the head of Greene, but successfully getting the ring official's attention, allowing the TV Champ the chance to nail the challenger in the head to stun him long enough for a pinfall victory.

Tag team action was up next as Scott Kull & Mark Van Hook entered the ring to square off against Destiny's "Infamous Icon" Joey Silvia & "Leelicious" Lee Valiant along with manager Ty Dillinger. A high-speed battle ensued with Van Hook & Kull seperating Valiant from his partner early. Former Mid Atlantic Heavyweight champ Silvia waded into the battle, taking over the ring and slowing their opponent's offensive burst to a crawl. Silvia positioned the impressive Kull, turning and dropping as Valiant landed feet-first onto his chest from the top ropes for an impressive finish and pinfall win. Manager Ty Dillinger took the house mic as the wrestlers left the ring area and announced that HE was the special surprise Commissiner for the evening. He went on to talking about witnessing the retirement of wrestling legend Ric Flair only to be interrupted by the playing of the Nature Boy's music.

Not know what or whom to expect, Dillinger was surprised when the VIP's Gemini Kid emerged from the ring entrance and entered the ring. Gemini took the house mic and filibustered until his was angry enough to precipitate an attack on the Commissioner, soon joined by his teammates Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega & "Simply" Steve Greene for some sick fun. Destiny cleared the ring and Dillinger announced that he had a very special surprise for the main event later in the night just because of the attack he'd just survived.

In grudge match action the popular Brass Munkey stood up to his attacker Evan Banks and his manager Bobby O'Neil, who had tried to injure him at a previous event. The newcomer Banks held his own against the maniacal Munkey, giving as well as taking the punishment dealt to him. Manager O'Neil was able to get his hands on the fan-favorite only on a couple of occassions, and not enough to significantly change the outcome of the bout. Munkey took a shot at the manager on the ring apron and then forced the impressive youngster to submit after nailing him in the head with a wicked spinning kick to even the score.

With a shot at the CWF Mid Atlantic Television Title on the line for the winner, six former champions entered the ring to do battle in a special one-fall 6-Pack bout. General Michael McAllister, Roy "Rage" Wilkins, Tank Lawson, "Handsome" Mitch Connor, "Box Office Draw" Mikael Yamaha & Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride went to battle, with friends battling friends and Connor trying to make peace with Yamaha in the opening moments. Peace did not ensue as the tags became quick and all six competitors did everything possible to keep any of the others from making a pin. Wilkins made a late impressive run, punking out McAllister after he had delivered a low blow to Yamaha. Lawson was positioned to get tagged in and make the pinfall win for a guaranteed shot at the "High Definition" Television Title.

After in-ring introductions for the main event, Commissioner Dillinger entered the ring area to announce his surprise, that Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride would be his hand-picked enforcer at ringside to cancel the VIP's advantage of having Gemini Kid at ringside. CWF Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion "the 1st" Ric Converse answered the bell to defend against the challenge of the VIPs Jesse "El Fuego" Ortega. Ortega began the bout on fire and soon began to work on injuring the arm of Converse in preparation for a Fujiwara armbar submission, his favorite means of winning. The champion withstood almost twelve minutes of attacks aimed at weakening his arm as the "King of Heat" Gemini Kid tried to find opportunities to get involved as Rob "Boogie Woogie Man" McBride continually thwarted him. Converse literally turned the tables by stealing a page from the challenger's gameplan and forcing a rare tap out by the hot-blooded Ortega from his own Fujiwara armbar hold.

Before the celebration could get started, McBride entered the ring and faced off against Converse as the two are scheduled to do battle for the Mid Atlantic title in Greensboro NC on April 19th. Converse didn't appreciate the aggression McBride quite unexpectedly displayed and the two had to be seperated by the ring officials from the back.

IndyInsiders.Com CWF Report!

the Insiders Soapbox

:::Steps up onto the soapbox:::

Stardate: 04.20.08 10:12 pm

Ever had one of those days where it looked like rain all day and doesn't rain until you HAVE to be standing outside with a stack of humming electrical equipment? Sure you have, just like I did Saturday night at Sumner Civitans Ballfield for CWF Civitans SuperBrawl 2. The rains were predicted all weekend, but it never rained more than a slight drizzle until after fans were being seated for the event. As the facility's light towers came to life, the clouds overhead seemed to darken more and more. The rain began in earnest about 10 minutes before the scheduled 7:30 belltime, resulting in weather radar indicating a break in the weather. The skies opened up as soon as I finished the ring introductions for the third bout of the night, "Simply" Steve Greene & Amber O'Neal v. Tank Lawson & Kristin Flake in a mixed tag team rules bout. I watched in horror as referee Redd Jones made eye contact questioning whether to allow the match to continue, to which I was not in a position to make the call.

The match didn't go long past the 5 minute mark before ending in a deluge and everyone scurried to the shelters as a fifteen minute intermission was announced. Weather radar insisted that it would rain "another 10 minutes" and be finished for the night. I ordered the tarp removed from the already soaked canvas around the 15 minute mark and the final three bouts of the night ensued. Now. Everyone knows I do a handful of the Mid Atlantic stars websites and because of the downpour, I was unable to leave the sound tent to take a single photo of the mixed tag team bout (and I do both TankLawson.com & SimplySteveGreene.Com). I have NEVER been in that predicament before unless my camera failed totally to operate, and I apologize again to everyone for not being able to get the action of that match for posterity. And before I totally forget where I was heading, the evening's weather report was indeed correct for a change. We had a break in the clouds and an almost full moon shining down over the last two bouts, only the temperature began to drop as the clouds began to break up, leaving a cold wet crowd of spectators to wind their way out of the Sumner Civitans Ballfield facility to nearly-dry roads for the trip home.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm just numb to this kind of news, but I see a somewhat irate uproar over the news that Titan Towers has decided to part ways with ECW staple Joey Styles. It's got to be the fact that I've quit watching televised wrestling back in 2001 that allows me to remember the REAL ECW. Tazz, Tommy Dreamer, Shane Douglas, Sandman, Simon Diamond, Dudleys, New Jack, Nova, Danny Doring & the Angry Amish Farmer, etc. and so on. That's the real ECW. I really have no idea what they've been trying to sell as ECW since the declaration that it was simply "another WWE brand like Smackdown! and Raw". Lawyers rock if you can afford that kind of protection. They allow you to feed your paying public a line that no mere mortal can possibly understand. Good work if you can get it.
