AWA World Tag Titles Declared VACANT!

AWA President William L. Cross officially announced last night following the Burlington NC CWF Mid Atlantic event that the AWA World Tag Titles were being held up until further notice. Cross, on behalf of the AWA Board of Directors, was in attendance when the belts supposedly changed hands, but did not announce his decision until conferring with ring official Charles Richardson following the bout.

CWF Mid Atlantic Commissioner Ty Dillinger took it upon himself to book the world title bout, which is not within his authority without approval from both the President and Board of Directors of the AWA. Dillinger then forced Ric Converse to choose another partner because his championship partner Xsiris was not scheduled to appear. Converse chose Neon Lion Lee Valiant to defend against Gemini Kid and Jesse Ortega, who had left the building the previous week with the stolen world title straps.

The ruling is based on many factors, foremost being that the CWF Commissioner does not have the power to sign a world title match and that Dillinger, Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Joey Silvia and Mid Atlantic Television Champion Steve Greene were also present outside the ring, interfering during the closing moments of the title bout. Gemini Kid and Jesse Ortega were ordered to surrender the title belts before leaving the arena, but refused to, leaving the building for the second straight week with titles that are not rightfully theirs.

The AWA World Tag Titles are now legally vacant.
